ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop embedded C++ software on CoreDirector family of optical switches, including maintenance of existing software, development of new features, and support of new hardware.
Participate in all stages of software development, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, test, and maintenance.
Responsible for communication with Software, Hardware, Integration and Test, System Engineering, Validation, and Manufacturing teams throughout the design and development cycle.
Attend meetings, report progress, and take technical leadership to troubleshoot and fix defects.
Provide guidance and mentoring for junior engineers hired into the team who may be tasked to perform some of the above duties.
Help investigate and collect information to resolve process or design issues found on a current design or in previous designs.
Strong C++ and object oriented design skills
Experience working with a large code base (systems with more than 10 software developers working at a time on the same code base).
Proficient developing software on multi-processor, highly concurrent systems (good knowledge of mutual exclusion, synchronization, interrupt handling, inter-process communication, etc. )
Must be fast learner with excellent debugging skills.
Prefer telecommunications experience, particularly in
o General SONET/ SDH (Performance Monitoring, Alarms, Faults, OAM & P, GR- 253)
o SONET/ SDH Protection (BLSR, UPSR, APS, GR-1230, GR-1400)
o TL-1 and SONET Operations Communication (TL1 Agent Development, Gateway NE functionality, Marben OSI stack)
Ability to resolve complex issues that may require design trade-offs.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong knowledge of using software tools for analysis, development, testing, and debug.
Must be able to travel to United States for extended periods of time (up to 3 months) with advanced notice
Independent self starter and committed to delivering on aggressive deadlines.
Comfortable in a team environment with ability to lead or to work with little supervision
